Higher Education
Since
Blue Mountain Community College opened its
doors in 1962, thousands of students have
received degrees. Every term approximately
1,000 full-time and 4,500 part-time students
attend classes at the main campus in
Pendleton, at sites in Hermiston, Boardman,
Milton-Freewater, and Baker City, or via
distance education. The college district
covers over 8,000 square miles in Baker,
Morrow and Umatilla Counties.
BMCC is a comprehensive community college
offering a transfer degree to 4-year
universities, professional technical
programs, basic skills education for adults,
and dual-credit courses for high school
students. They also operate a Small Business
Development center, Farm Business Management
program, a Customized Training division for
business and industry, and Skill Centers. A
partnership with Eastern Oregon University
offers bachelor degrees in Teachers
Education and Business Administration.
The faculty and staff at Blue Mountain
Community College offer students a personal
approach to education. Classes are small,
yet dynamic, allowing for individualized
attention and mastery of the subject, as
well as personal success.
The 175-acre Pendleton campus overlooks the
City of Pendleton. The Pioneer Hall Theatre
hosts annual College Community Theatre
productions, concerts, lectures, and
workshops. The Betty Feves Memorial Gallery
exhibits a wide variety of art and functions
as an educational tool to encourage
creativity and foster art appreciation.
Student activities include basketball,
volleyball, softball, baseball, rodeo, jazz
band, chorale and student government. A
weeklong Arts & Culture Festival and Native
American Club Pow-Wow expand cultural
offering at the college. |
